Fixed support for Metro system in Riyadh – with Fischer fastening solutions

Safe all the way

6.5 million people currently live in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And the influx of new citizens to the metropolis is high. In order to keep pace with urbanisation, a new metro system will be created from 2014 to 2021. This means that traffic is shifted from busy roads to railways – for fast and environmentally friendly progress.

With six lines and 176 kilometres of track, one of the largest metro systems in the world is being built. Together with integrated solutions, such as a multi-lane bus network and sufficient parking spaces, public transport will cover most of the city. 85 new train stations with their own colour scheme for each line as well as wide green areas around the stations and route give Riyadh a new face.

fischer fastening solutions are used for numerous applications, especially in interior fittings. More than 900 different steel anchors, plastic anchors, chemical fastening systems, facade and installation systems as well as FireStop solutions have already been installed in the stations, tunnels and depots, with a quantity of around seven million units. With the products, elements in interior fittings, media pipes and wall cladding could be anchored safely, easily and quickly in concrete and hollow block structures and fixed to steel structures.

“We convinced our client because we were able to offer them cost-effective fastening solutions for all applications from a single source,” says Christian Knoll, Managing Director of fischer SystemTec. “The products meet high quality standards, guarantee safety and comply with the project’s specifications and standards.” In addition, the company has already supported the construction project with numerous services. “Our support ranged from consultations and technical presentations to planning, pull-out tests, tests and on-site installation support,” explains Christian Knoll. “When it came to providing technical calculations in less than 48 hours and much more, we provided quick support.”

In the steel sector, the fisher bolt anchors FAZ II and FBN II were installed, among others. The economical and easy-to-install anchoring solutions meet high load requirements in concrete, even under extreme conditions such as seismic loads. The EA II impact anchor was also used. With its approval for the multiple attachment of non-load-bearing systems, it is ideal for attaching media lines, for example. On chemical fastening systems, the FIS EM Plus injection mortar from Fischer ensured the highest load-bearing capacity in concrete and for seismic applications. In addition, the FHB II high bond system from Fischer was used. The torque-controlled composite expansion anchor achieves the highest load values in concrete. With the versatile FIS V injection mortar, the add-on parts could also be permanently and securely anchored in the hollow block. With its wide range of system approvals, the composite anchor enables high load-bearing capacity in all building materials, such as concrete, but also solid and perforated brickwork. The fisher SXR long-shank anchors were used in the plastics sector, among others. With its long shaft, the facade substructure could be fixed directly in the anchoring base. They consist of special screws and high-performance nylon sleeves, which have different expansion elements and behave in accordance with solid and hollow construction materials.

Fischer facade systems were also installed, such as the FZP II cyclone panel anchors for completely positive-locking and completely expansion-pressure-free fastening of the wall cladding in the tapered undercut borehole. Other components of the complete system were added, such as the BSN undercut drills. The Zykon plate anchors FZP II achieve lower plate bending moments and higher load-bearing capacities than edge fastenings. This meant that the thin, two-centimetre-thick natural stone panels with low density could also be anchored securely and firmly without becoming visible to the outside. Meanwhile, the fisher installation systems made it possible to reliably, economically and easily attach any supply and disposal lines. The FUS universal rail system from fischer was suitable for the heavy loads. The components required in each case could be compiled modularly depending on the situation and scope of the line. Products from the fischer FireStop range for passive fire protection also help to protect people’s lives and infrastructure in the event of a fire.

With products and services that cover the project-specific requirements and approvals, the fischer Group will continue to support the project as a strong partner until the successful completion of the construction project. For example, some of the stations have been completed, but others are still in progress. fischer is in permanent close contact with the various partners and companies involved in the project in order to provide suitable products and services.
