For the first time in 500 years, a large part of the Old Procuratie (Procuratie Vecchie) on St Mark's Square in Venice will be opened to the public. The aim is to connect the famous building more closely with the city and its visitors. For five years, the Procuratie Palace was previously restored. To reinforce the ceilings and replace old fixings such as wooden pins and riveted joints, as well as for many other applications, fischer fixing products were used.

Three interconnected buildings frame St Mark's Square in Venice, the so-called Procuratie. To the north are the Old Procuraties (Procuratie Vecchie), to the west the Napoleonic wing and to the south the New Procuraties (Procuratie Nuove). They served as living and working quarters for the procurators of Saint Mark. These municipal officials held the highest-ranking position in the Republic of Saint Mark after the Doges (heads of state). Their task was to look after the property management of St. Mark's.
The work included the renovation of the first and first floor with the offices of the insurance company. In the process, the circulation and access to the rooms were reorganised. The third floor was also renovated. This floor houses The Human Safety Net, an international, non-profit Generali foundation supporting disadvantaged people. On the third floor, public access was created to the exhibition and event spaces, work areas, an auditorium and a café. The restoration work used some of the most traditional Venetian craftsmanship techniques: terrazzo on the arches opening onto the walls, pastellone floors, whitewash on the brick surfaces, marmorino and Venetian plaster are among them.

Due to the enormous importance of the project, great skill and expertise were required not only in the architectural design, but also in the selection of products for the careful and cautious restoration. Among others, the company Sacaim SpA, which has been active in Venice since 1920, was decisively responsible for this. This general contractor in charge has already worked on numerous projects with the fischer group of companies, which supplied the fixing solutions for the restoration project.
The restoration of the Old Procuraties is part of Generali's 190th anniversary celebrations and a broad redevelopment initiative for the area around St Mark's Square, which includes, for example, the recently reopened Royal Gardens. The premises served as the Italian headquarters of the insurance company until 1989. After the restoration work, Generali will now return to the Old Procuraties. Thanks to the successful completion of the project, the history of the building can be preserved. At the same time, the Old Prokuraties will be opened to the world public for the first time and led into the future with a new use.
