According to information from the transport provider Inrix, car drivers in Moscow were congested for around 210 hours last year. On average, it only progressed at 18 km/h. The construction of the new metro tunnel, planned by the Lenmetrogiprotrans Institute and led by the construction company Mosinzhproekt (both Russian), is intended to help increase the number of road users switching from road to rail. Against this background, Russia attaches great importance to the project, which started in April and is scheduled to complete its first phase at the end of 2019. This involves using technological solutions that are completely new to the Moscow Metro.

This also includes the ventilation system. This means that tunnel ventilation for the removal of pollutants, smoke extraction in the event of fire and fresh air supply meet the latest technical standards. The ventilation systems are fastened safely and permanently, but at the same time quickly and economically, with Fischer FAZ II bolt anchors. The Russian subsidiary of the fischer group of companies developed a solution in close cooperation with VIP Systems, one of its sales partners, and proposed Lenmetrogiprotrans, which optimises the fastening design both technically and economically. A total of around 30,000 FAZ II 24/30 and around 18,000 FAZ II 12/10 – both in stainless steel (A4) - secure the ventilation system.

“Initially, due to high loads, it was planned to attach the systems to the tunnel tubes with four anchors per unit, each with a diameter of 24 millimetres,” reports Andrey Egorov, Managing Director of fischer Russia. “We offered a highly economical fastening solution with a consistently high level of safety,” emphasises the expert and explains: “With our fischer FAZ II 24/30 A4, it was possible to reduce the number of fastening points from four to two and at the same time ensure the required load-bearing capacity.” This avoided errors when fastening the ventilation systems in the high-density reinforced concrete of the railway tunnel, as well as reducing material costs and labour time.

Two FAZ II 24/30 A4 bolt anchors each attach the main units of the ventilation system to the tunnel tubes. Two FAZ II 12/10 A4 each additionally secure secondary supporting structures. In general, the bolt anchor is a preferred solution for fixing fixtures such as fans in tunnels. With its proven spreading clip, it guides the loads safely into the concrete and enables a very high load-bearing capacity. The FAZ II 24/30 and 12/10 in A4 have ETA (European Technical Approval) and ICC approval, so they comply with European and international standards, are made of stainless steel and are proven to be resistant to fire and seismic influences. “In addition to the optimal fastening solution, we also impressed our client with our services, with which we accompany the metro construction through all project phases, from planning and calculation to training and support on the construction site to completion,” emphasises Andrey Egorov.
