The Brazilian subsidiary of fischer received orders to supply various fastening systems for several new buildings in the Olympic Park in the Barra district, in the south of the city, due to the high quality of the fisher products and their service on site. Most of the arenas consist of load-bearing prefabricated concrete structures and steel structures, which place high demands on the fastening technology.

At the tennis arena with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, the metal roof construction had to be fastened to the concrete supports. For this purpose, anchor rods were processed with fish grout. The three Carioca stadiums are currently being built just a few metres away. Basketball games, rings and judo as well as spruce and taekwondo take place here.

The three arenas each have a capacity of 6,500 spectators. All seats here were also anchored with anchors and injection mortar in the concrete substructure.Another architectural highlight of the Olympic Park is the Arena of the Future. The handball games take place in the Nordic-looking building. Here, the railings and the wave breakers, which are intended to prevent spectators from pushing uncontrolled towards the playing field, were fastened to the concrete substrate with steel anchor bolts.

The Olympic Games are also always a global media event for which a temporary media centre is being built. The “International Broadcast Centre” (IBC) is used to broadcast TV and radio programmes. The two buildings are also located in the Barra Olympic Park and were the first to be handed over to the Olympic Committee at the end of last year. The main building has twelve studios, each covering around 5,000 square metres.

fischer Brazil took over the fastening and cladding of the extensive electrical systems and cable routes here. 306 competitions in 28 sports are held in the various Olympic buildings. A large proportion of these plants were newly built. All sports facilities are divided into four zones within the urban area of Rio de Janeiro: Maracanã, Barra, Deodoro and Copacabana.

The opening and closing ceremony are planned in the legendary Maracanã stadium, and the athletics disciplines will be held in the Olympic stadium “João Havelange”.After supplying fastening systems for all stadiums of the last World Cup in Brazil, the Brazilian managers also relied on the know-how, quality and safety of fischer’s fastening products for the Olympic buildings.
